A short history of the band and their performances

16thBreath has been together since early October, 1998. The band started with Jeremiah, the guitarist, and Jon, the bassist, looking to start a band. The two instrumentalists had know each other for quite a few years, recently had started to practice together, and decided to start a band. After asking around West Valley for a drummer, they found out about a geeky little freshman named Austin Sousa had been playing for a couple of years. Without any further ado, they walked up to him and asked if he wanted to be in their band. Austin, after getting over his fear over the two strange looking upper classmen, promptly agreed to a practice time. Two pre-band groupies also came to the practice, one of which, Allison Sanders, became their lead singer.  If you were wondering about the band name, it doesn't have any meaning we know of, it's just fun.  After being a band for a little less than ten months, they started doing shows...

Around the end of November, 16th Breath was in a musical rut.  Everyone was pretty stressed out and they needed a change.  On a whim they decided that they needed some new blood, at least for a little while.  Jeremiah called a long time friend and guitarist Jeremy Harrod, who fit in unbelievably well with the band. Within the first two weeks of playing with the band, it was decided that Jeremy become a permanent member. In the Month and a half that followed, they wrote at least six songs and rewrote many old ones.

2 weeks after the '99-2000 schoolyear ended, Ali and Austin left on a 3-week trip of France, and shortly their return in July decided to attempt "Jamestock 2000", which went off very well, taking place in Jeremiah's back yard. The band has plans to do battle in the studio, hopefully resulting in a solid recording of a 5-song LP, that (if there's interest) could be copied and sold at shows.

November, 2000
Things semed to be going well for the band, with new songs, better material, and performances that were more together than ever before. However, several members began to feel that the band needed another change. Plans were made to reform the band, following the logic that "They just weren't good enough". The first victim of the cutting process was to be bassist John Doore, because "He never showed up to practice". After presenting the idea to Jeremy and Austin, it was decided that the band would break up after the halloween show, and reform some time later without John. An uneasy tension hung over the band, as members now would constantly have to watch themselves from mentioning plans to John, and were forced to maintain order for fear of being cut.

Halloween came and went without a hitch. The band finally played the Tribal Hall on Halloween, something all members had mutually aspired to. Afterward, the band decided to part ways, with varying degrees of affirmation. The songwriting pair soon after decided that the rest of the band wouldn't work out, and hung flyers reading "drummer and bassist needed for a recording project". The project is continuing as we speak, leaving Jeremy with his other successful bands (Jakob's Ladder and Savvy), and John and Austin in search of new projects.

That's it, folks. That's how it goes. The group starts on a highrise that seems like you could ride it for ever, but it can come crashing down at any minute, any time, and faster than you can blink. Sixteenth Breath is no more. Now it's simply a story told by so many musicians, just yet another high school group with high aspirations to make great music shut down by petty differences.
